Privacy Policy

MyGEDCOMs recognizes the confidentiality of certain information that is provided to us in the course of using our website and is committed to protecting the privacy of the individuals providing said information as well as the individuals described therein. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for this site.

GEDCOM Uploads

Members may use the site to upload GEDCOMs whose contents, in whole or in part, may be reproduced and shared with visitors to the site (including names, events, notes, and sources for both individuals and families). At the member's option, information for each GEDCOM may be shared either publicly with any visitor to the site or privately with only the member who uploaded the information and allowed viewers he or she designates.

MyGEDCOMs cannot determine nor be held responsible for the actions of visitors or members once they have viewed information from a GEDCOM.

MyGEDCOMs will not sell or otherwise convey to a third party any information provided by a member.

Privacy of Living and Recently Deceased Individuals

MyGEDCOMs never shows information to public visitors to the site about people born or possibly born within the 115 years preceding the time of access.

Members have the option to share access to people born within the past 115 years to designated allowed viewers. MyGEDCOMs cannot determine nor be held responsible for the actions of members who another member allows to view private information in a tree.

Dropbox and Media Uploads

In order to facilitate integration with Dropbox in the easiest way for our members, MyGEDCOMs currently requires a member to first grant full access rights to the member's Dropbox folder before being able to use the automatic Dropbox upload feature.

MyGEDCOMs uses the Dropbox access rights provided by a member to download or otherwise access information only about files that are explicitly referenced in GEDCOMs uploaded by the member at a time when the member had a premium subscription, only so long as the member continues to have a premium subscription, and only whenever the member uploads a new version of their GEDCOM for a tree.

Members who are uncomfortable with granting access to their full Dropbox should contact us via email at to register their concerns, and we will consider prioritizing the development of an app-based version of the Dropbox upload integration that only requires the member to grant permission for a Dropbox app folder, provided that the member is willing to move their existing genealogy media files to this folder.

Payments and credit card details are securely handled by Stripe and no credit card information of any kind is ever communicated to our servers other than a secure token which is necessary to create a one-time subscription. This token is discarded immediately after use.

Visitor Data Collection

MyGEDCOMs uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service provided by Google. Google utilizes the data collected to track and examine the use of, to prepare reports on its activities and share them with other Google services. Google may use the data collected to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network.
